Unlike classical compositions, most jazz compositions are written in a kind of shorthand – the melody is written, but the harmony is represented by the chord symbols and rhythm that is called in one or two words in the Above page. If it’s a swing, the melody can be written in 4 / 4 or 3 / 4, but a triplet implicit sense if it was written, more akin to 12.8 in a time of 04.04.
The players leave the interpretation of harmony as they wish – vocals, chord extensions and alterations may be part of improvisation. To make this work, the pieces are generally short structures (32 bars used to be typical of the music, for example, the blues is usually 12 bars). These structures again by the game becomes a harmonious variations on the game and variations on the theme.
For a student to learn to improvise, the task is to play tunes on a set of chord structure, the most important skill to learn, you can play their scales and chords and play the melodies of songs themes . To gain this control, you must learn connection string and lead vocals. Here are two exercises that will help:
1. Contact chord progression and start the third or seventh step of the first agreement. Create a step by step (full and half-steps), using only the descendant and the third part of the seventh. Note that when the roots of change in fifth (Am7 D7 Gm7 and is, for example), becomes the seventh to the third and seventh of the third party. For example, the progression, you can play the notes:
C (third Am) C (seventh D7), B (third Gm7).
Or, you can play:
G (seventh Am7) F # (one third of D7) and E (seventh Gm7).
Start your second low tone that is part of the first agreement and the rise with the next tone is the second agreement, etc. When you reach your highest note, turn around and down the same way. Vary this by using two notes per string, or three, or four notes per string. this respect agreements teacher steps.
You can also do this exercise with arpeggios – that is to be limited to string tones (1,3,5,7).
Try these first, growing very simple – only two strings, and build more complex changes. Then try with longer intervals.
